Night Sky Meditation

The night sky can be an amazing way to enter a state of deep awareness. Very few can observe a star studded night sky, far away from city lights, and not feel something. The vastness and majesty of infinite space surrounding us shuts down the mental chatter of the little me and creates a similar space within us. Something within us resonates with the silence of deep space and vibrates with the same frequency – the frequency of presence.

Being a science or astronomy fan can certainly help, but for achieving a state of presence, all that is needed is to allow the grandeur of the night sky to create silence in us.

Be aware of the tendency to name, label, or identify objects in the sky. These are the minds favorite techniques to get away from the present moment and into a space it is familiar with: the thought space. Each time the tendency to label arises, observe it without judgement, smile, and then get back to being present and drinking in of the beauty of what the present moment offers.

Being in Nature is a great way to learn to be aware and present.
